What it costs: Dutch export prices and Norwegian charges
Our prices cover the Dutch side: export document, insurance with white plates, EX-A and extras, always confirmed in advance. Norwegian taxes and fees are separate; we list them with their source but do not collect them.
- Export document from €50
- Every price confirmed in advance
- Pay cash or by bank transfer
from €50
The cost of importing a car to Norway has two parts: what you pay us in the Netherlands, and what the Norwegian authorities charge at the border and at registration. This page keeps them strictly apart. Our prices are starting prices, including VAT where applicable, and we always confirm the exact price before we start.
Our export prices in the Netherlands
The full tariff list is further down. The main rates:
- Export document from €50: export certificate (kentekenbewijs deel II), vrijwaringsbewijs (the seller's proof that the Dutch registration has ended) and RDW processing.
- Export insurance with white plates from €100: 14 days of third-party cover with a Green Card, without the export document.
- Complete package from €150: export document, vrijwaringsbewijs, insurance, Green Card and plates.
- Insurance extension from €120 per 14 days, after the insurer agrees.
- EX-A export declaration from €150, needed because Norway is outside the EU.
- BPM refund service for the Dutch registration tax, at a fixed €149, export document not included.
CoC guidance is available on request; the route varies by manufacturer and importer. You pay in cash or by bank transfer.
When our export price goes up: Sundays, post, heavy vehicles
The price can be higher outside office hours (Sunday is by appointment, at a higher rate), when we send documents and plates by post, and for heavy or unusual vehicles. Motorhomes, vans and trucks over 2,500 kg are priced on request, because insurance and handling can cost more. Caravans, trailers and vehicles with foreign documents are assessed individually; see the table below. A written price confirmation for your vehicle, route, start date and shipping always takes precedence over the guide prices.
Postal rates when the car is already in Norway
By post, the export document costs €120 with standard insured DHL (about 5 working days) or €150 with DHL Express (about 1 working day), the same rate for the Netherlands and abroad. These rates also apply when the car is already abroad and the export runs by post. Contact us first: we confirm the price in advance, and we will also discuss the export declaration.
Costs in Norway set by Tolletaten, Skatteetaten and Statens vegvesen
People searching for Norway car import tax or Norway import duty usually want to know about the charges below. These are government charges, not ours: they are set by Norwegian authorities and paid there, and we do not collect, calculate or pay them.
- VAT (mva): 25% on the value of the car plus freight and insurance, charged by Tolletaten. For electric cars in 2026, only on the amount above NOK 300,000.
- A tax on the greenhouse gases in the air conditioning (avgift for klimagass), also charged at import.
- The one-off registration tax (engangsavgift) with the vehicle scrap deposit tax, paid to Skatteetaten. A used car gets an age deduction (bruksfradrag) from Skatteetaten's table, for example 19% once it is over one year old and 50% at five years. Skatteetaten's calculator gives the amount for your car.
- The vehicle inspection at Statens vegvesen: you are told the price when you book.
- Temporary plates (prøveskilt) at NOK 340 per day, and number plates at NOK 70 each or NOK 140 per set, according to Statens vegvesen.
- Norway car tax: in 2018 the annual tax was replaced by a road traffic insurance tax (trafikkforsikringsavgift), which you pay through your insurer.
How these charges fit into the process is explained on importing a car into Norway, and the whole route on our overview page. Questions about your situation? Contact our export desk for free advice.

Costs of a car from the Netherlands to Norway: your questions

Do you calculate the Norwegian registration tax for me?
No. Skatteetaten's calculator gives the one-off registration tax for your car. We do not calculate, collect or pay Norwegian taxes.
