Sell a Dutch car abroad, or to a buyer in Norway
Want to sell a Dutch car abroad? Send us the details and photos; we pass them on to our network of car dealers abroad, which may make an offer. Asking costs nothing. Already found a buyer in Norway? We arrange the export papers and EX-A.
- Free and without obligation
- For cars built in 2008 or later
- Export papers at our Hengelo desk
Do you want to sell a Dutch car abroad, for example a car with a high mileage, a diesel, an ex-lease car, a company van or a car with damage? We put it in front of our network of car dealers abroad, free of charge and without obligation. If you already have a buyer, for example someone in Norway, we arrange the Dutch export papers and the export declaration.
Cars that suit an export sale
We look at cars built in 2008 or later, in particular:
- cars with more than 200,000 km on the clock;
- diesel cars;
- ex-lease cars;
- company vans;
- damaged cars.
You do not have to come to Hengelo to ask for an offer: the details and photos can be sent online. Asking costs nothing and commits you to nothing. The buyer pays for the export papers, and for insurance and plates if the car is driven away.
Sell a Dutch car abroad in four steps
- You send the details: registration number, make and model, year, mileage, fuel, condition and any damage, with photos, via WhatsApp or the form below.
- We pass the car on to our network of car dealers abroad, who may make an offer.
- We forward the offer to you, and you decide.
- If you accept, the transfer for export takes place at our desk in Hengelo. You receive the vrijwaringsbewijs, the proof that your Dutch registration has ended; the buyer receives the export papers, plus export insurance and two white plates if the car is driven to its destination.
The more complete your details and photos, the easier it is for the companies to assess the car. Selling a car with damage? Describe all damage and add photos of it. We mediate and arrange the export papers; we do not buy cars ourselves. Offers come from companies abroad, and we cannot promise an offer or say how soon one will come.
How the transfer for export works
A car sold abroad is not transferred to the foreign buyer in the Dutch register. Instead, the RDW says the buyer should export the car in his or her own name. At our desk the buyer therefore receives the export certificate, the kentekenbewijs deel II (Dutch registration certificate part II), in his or her name, and you as the seller receive the vrijwaringsbewijs. That is how a change of ownership is handled for export. Keep the vrijwaringsbewijs: according to the RDW, your obligations for insurance, APK (the Dutch periodic roadworthiness test) and motor vehicle tax on the car stop after the export. For the transfer we need, among other things, the registration card with its tenaamstellingscode and the yellow Dutch plates, which are handed in. Read more about the Dutch export documents.
Your own buyer in Norway: EX-A, EORI and the export
Found a buyer in Norway on your own? Then the buyer exports the car in his or her own name. If the buyer cannot come to the Netherlands, the RDW allows a contact person in the Netherlands to arrange the export.
Because Norway is outside the EU, an export declaration with Dutch Customs is needed as well: the EX-A document. For that we need an invoice to the buyer in Norway and the EORI number of the selling party. Dutch Customs requires the declarant to be established in the EU, so agree with us in advance who will make the declaration, for example you as the Dutch seller. For businesses, the sale is taxed at 0% VAT once you can prove that the car left the EU. We can arrange the RDW export and the EX-A at our desk, but we do not promise that both are ready on the same day.
After that, the buyer handles the Norwegian steps: customs clearance with VAT (mva), the approval, the one-off registration tax and the registration, as described on importing a car into Norway. Our overview for Norway shows the whole route at a glance.

Selling a Dutch car for export: questions about offers and papers
Does Auto Export Noorwegen buy my car itself?
No. We pass your car's details to our network of car dealers abroad and forward any offer to you. We do not buy cars ourselves: we mediate and arrange the export papers.
Will I always get an offer for my car from abroad?
No, we cannot promise an offer or a response time. Offers come from car dealers abroad, not from us, and you decide whether to accept.
What does selling for export cost me as the seller?
Nothing. Requesting an offer is free and without obligation. The buyer pays for the export papers, and for insurance and plates if the car is driven away.
I have found a buyer in Norway myself. What is needed?
The buyer exports the car in his or her own name; if the buyer cannot come, a contact person in the Netherlands may arrange the RDW export. Because Norway is outside the EU, an EX-A export declaration is also needed, with an invoice to the buyer and the EORI number of the selling party.
Which cars are suitable for an export sale?
Typically cars with more than 200,000 km, diesel cars, ex-lease cars, company vans and damaged cars, built in 2008 or later.
